As part of the Foundation’s mission, a scholarship was established for nurses who wish to continue their education and achieve subspecialty certification in the care of Orthopedic patients. The scholarship pays the fee for the nurse to take the Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Examination administered through the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board.
To qualify for this examination the nurse must hold a current, full and unrestricted license as an RN in the United States. The nurse must also hold a current, full and unrestricted license to practice as a first-level general nurse in the country where they completed their nursing education. The nurse must have 2 years of full practice experience as an RN and a minimum of 1,000 hours of work experience as an RN in orthopaedic nursing practice within the past three years.
The OC Foundation Board chooses the scholarship recipients based on their level of experience as well as their additional interests and accomplishments in nursing and orthopaedics. The application is available online. By helping nurses to attain this additional specialty training and certification, the Foundation also aims to improve patient care in the hospitals around our area.
